THE PLAY MUSICAL, Alan Shaw Theatre, Peter Moyes Anglican Community School, Mindarie, Perth, WA 15/04/2025

Harry Groves

Hi, I’m Henry, 12 years old, and I’ve been performing for nearly 4 years. I’m an active member of Joondalup Entertainers Theatre School (JETS) and “The Play” because it shares powerful messages about diversity and inclusion. I believe we’re all different, but equally important. Being part of “The Play” has made me kinder, and helped me act – because we may not know someone’s past, but we can help shape a better future for them.

Mrs Humpries

Hi, I’m Lani Coventry, 14 years old, from Western Australia. I have two older sisters and love spending time with my friends and exploring new places. My favourite movie genres are comedy and horror. I’ve always had a passion for acting and dream of becoming an actress. I’m excited to be part of “The Play” because of its intensity, realism, and the meaningful issues it addresses. I hope you enjoy the show!

Tommy Ward & Sam

I’m Declan O’Donnell, 18 years old. I’ve lived with an undiagnosed brain injury as a baby due to my mother’s inability to care for me. Diagnosed with ADHD at 5 and Autism at 14. JETS acted as a vital alternative school. I’ve been with JETS since I’m 11 – it’s made me so, so happy. A place where I’m accepted. I love singing, dancing, animating, and coding, though everything still wipes me out. I’m pushing through NDIS supports with support from Ross at JETS, Brian Mountertites from Bynon Promotions, and my community.

Harry’s Dad & Mathew Jones

I’m Josh Buchanan, a performer with a C+AS vocal range. I aim to become a vocal teacher to inspire people to use their voice. I joined “The Play” five years ago and have grown and created an incredible experience for the audience, while acting I’ve performed themes. As a performer with autism, I’ve faced my fair share of discrimination, making me resilient and empathic. This journey proves that despite the hardest upsets, success is about overcoming and stepping stones.

Sara (Harry’s Sister), Oliver & Katie

I’m Scarlet Bright, 10 years old, and I love singing and acting. I’m new to musical theatre but have dreamt for so long just to be part of one. Being one of the team has helped me learn to enjoy my ADHD, make new friends and focus in something I enjoy. The messages of “The Play” is important – because no one deserves to be bullied or feel like they don’t belong, and I feel that. I think everyone should join The Play to feel like they belong, just like I do.

Carla Murray

Kayla Grace (14) when reading the script for The Play, Kayla felt a connection with the character Carla through her own experiences of anxiety and feeling like she didn’t belong. After years of performing through the diagnosis of ASD and other lifelong impacts, Kayla hopes to bring Carla to life on the stage.

Claire

I’m Abigail Rogers, 13, originally from Canada but moved to Australia 10 years ago. I started ballet at 4 and have since been in school productions and small plays. I joined The Play because of its beautiful message. It focuses on real-life issues. Since watching it, I’ve stood up for others, and now I’m in it, wanting to inspire people the way I was inspired.

Johnny Moran & Jamal

Cecily Abrahams is a Perth-based artist with a multitude of talents! Her deep roots in the music world is where she found her love for theatre, having graced the stage since 2017 in productions like Grease JNR, Hairspray JNR, Shrek JNR and The Outsiders JNR. A proud performer with JETS since 2021. Now also part of JETS staff, Cecily co-choreographs and assists in teaching classes, helping boost JETS’ theatrical representation.

Meena Gupta

I’m Rosie. I joined The Play because growing up neurodiverse wasn’t always easy, and it was hard to relate or make friends like other kids. This made me feel misunderstood with endless anxiety. I want to help others relate better to people like me. I want them to be encouraged to be kinder. The Play helped me understand better that we’re all worthy and equal in our own ways. I’ve been part of many shows in all the years and I’m excited to perform again with my little sister Meena and show how this musical will continue to grow!

Stacey Johnstone & Harry’s Mum

Isabella, or “Izzie,” is a Perth young adult with myopia and a passion for theatre. She joined JETS in 2010, becoming a part of a supportive family that helped her bloom as a performer. Initially joining as a young shy and awkward teen, Izzie soon thrived and helped others, where her kindness and care ignites their inner spark. Izzie still feels like a set back, but she believes her love of performance helps others. She uses her own stepping stones for growth and new experiences.

Aisha Mohammed

Claudia Flamini, 15, is thrilled to return to the stage after roles as Cassie in 13 Jr and Grace in Annie Jr. She started her theatre journey five years ago with Joondalup Entertainers Theatre School (JETS) and quickly found a love for the performance. Claudia often feels left overlooked due to her hidden disability, and she’s long struggled in the past with feelings of anxiety, shame and worth over her bravery and self-acceptance. Both women rise above bullying and discrimination, embracing their identities with pride. Claudia has faced bullying, which has impacted her mental health, but she continues to shine.

Mildred Singing Laura’s song

Mattie has been acting for over four years, with skills in singing, acting, dancing, and choreography. Mattie has been part of multiple performances, such as “The Little Mermaid”, “Shrek”, and “Annie”. Mattie’s love of storytelling gives Mattie a voice to support other teens during similar experiences, encouraging them to stand up to bullies and join The Play.

A Message From The Cast

“The Play is more than a musical – it’s a voice for the unheard, a space for healing, and a movement of hope. Thank you for joining us on this journey.”
